Affectionately known to locals as Slomo, to all appearances this guy is homeless and simply hangs out at San Diego's Pacific Beach boardwalk.
Slomo practices an idiosyncratic, slow-motion style of inline skating that doubles as meditation.
In reality, the locals have no clue who he really is.
Here's the thing, he's Dr John Kitchin, a neurologist who's living a life that is a radial departure from his background.
Emerging from a bout of hopelessness with the realisation that all he wanted to do was ‘the basic things and skate’, he gave up his practice.
Dr Kitchin is now a minor celebrity on the boardwalk.
"I think what I'm doing, with all due modestly is a type of flying.
I was always trying to perfect this technique... skating in slow motion.
I realised that there was an aspect to lateral acceleration which made many of us feel good.
I studied this and there's a neurological explanation for this type of thing."
There's alot more to this story, check it out here.
